Becks Kao Mommy guilt

Saved, and forever grateful (A story of a girl who still has happy feet)

March 26, 2013

I thought this would only happen to irresponsible mothers and badly behaved children. I’d never imagine this would happen to me.

I had just released her right hand from my grip for three seconds. I was carrying the baby on my hip and needed to adjust the 10-kg weight.

Then it happened. I heard a blood-curdling scream and the next thing I knew, Becks was without her right shoe. When we arrived at the 3rd floor of the mall, Ben picked up her right shoe from the escalator, and this was what we saw.

Shoe caught in escalator

Becks’ right shoe got caught in the escalator and I was expecting a gash and profuse bleeding when I checked my little girl’s sole. The babe was still wailing from the shock and I was almost prepared to call the ambulance. I was with three kids and the helper and without the hubs, and the mall was all quiet at 9.30am. We had gone to the basement for breakfast and was going to check out the enrichment centres on the top floor when the incident happened, and I might as well be on my way to crucify myself for being a negligent, terrible mother.

But because the angels of the Lord encamp around those who fear His name, and because the Lord Himself is our Protector and Help, Becks suffered no injury at all.

I don’t believe in luck, and never will. This isn’t because I am lucky. It is a miracle she was unhurt. God was taking care of my children, and He protected my little girl. Thank you, thank you, Jesus.

Yikes! Looking at that mangled shoe gives me the chills. Thank God your little girl is safe! I’ve not bought crocs for the kids for this reason. My son likes to stick his feet against the edge of the escalator 🙁 You’ve reminded me again to stop him from doing that.

Yes, stop Noah from doing that! No no no!

Just hold on tight to Jacob within the yellow box when he wears them and gets on the escalators!

My hair is still standing from reading this! I’ve bought Poppy fake crocs: double bad! But I teach her to stand in the Yellow is and lays to hop on and off the escalators . As a kid , I used to like to let my footwear go all the way to the end of the escalator. Yikes.

That is really close. Thank god his angels are watching….  this is also the reason why I dare not buy crocs for my kids…. even thou on many occasions I wanted to buy them on impulse.

I think any shoe when caught would be problematic. I’m thinking, if it’s sport shoe laces, how?

Glad to know that she is fine. God is really watching over his little children.

Amen! Thank God for His protection on Becks! Dana wears crocs out too and I am always worried about accidents on escalators.

Yea, now I got crocs phobia! But they are so good for spontaneous water play & sand play!

Thank God Becks is unhurt! God really had His hand of protection over her…It’s crocs design again. Throw away all crocs designed shoes!!! 🙁 That’s one of the reason why I refuse to get K a pair of shoes of that style, despite the comfort, heard too many of these scary incidents.

Yea, I never thought the crocs-nightmare-for-parents story would happen to me! Now I teach her to stand in the middle of the yellow box!

Thank God she went unhurt!  What a fright for mum & daughter!

    • Reply MotherKao March 26, 2013 at 12:44 PM

It was a BIG fright indeed! Thank God she’s ok, if not I wouldn’t know how to live with the guilt!

Oh gosh, I’m so glad that Becks was unhurt! God’s guardian angels were surrounding her. I’m super paranoid about escalators and always demand that the girls stand squarely in the middle of the step.

Me too! I didn’t know she veered off half an inch to try to hold the handrails! Gosh, I was terribly shaken after the incident!
