We’ve never done a BBQ ever with the kids and every time we walked down East Coast and smell the waft of food coming from the pits, we always said, let’s do it someday.
And life went on and how busy we got and how quickly my kids have grown. And we decided to plan a family BBQ just for the fun of it.
And so we did.
Probably won’t do again. Hurhurhur, because the husband started the fire, the husband (and later on, the sister) did the cooking and I only could manage occasionally fanning and it was EXHAUSTING.
We didn’t really even plan the menu except some marinated wings, frozen squid and prawns. My MIL had to walk to the supermarket because the realisation that there were no corn cobs nor sweet potato was too unbearable.
But thankfully, Rachel from shepherdspie.sg came to the rescue and sent us her medium chicken pie and two mini beef and chicken pies which we could warm up over the fire very conveniently.
And those were the carbs for the night. The smoothness and creaminess of the mashed potatoes warmed us all, alongside the cheesy top and the slighty spicy filling.
Our hearts were full at our first family BBQ. But will have think hard if we want to barbeque again.
